Family, Tradition & Service

Colin Campbell Painting Contractors Ltd  is family run. Colin is still actively involved in the day to day running of the business but can be found on the odd day tinkering in his workshop rebuilding one of his classic cars whether it be the 1940 Ford Model A pickup or the latest treasure, a 1953 Wolseley.

Colin Campbell served his time as a motor mechanic with Checkers Taxis in Auckland but in 1963 as a young 19 year old Colin had the opportunity to go into partnership with another painter whom his Father worked for at the time as Campbell & Thomson Painters.

1968  with his young Wife, 18 month old son and Twin daughters on the way they purchased their first home in Papakura  and Colin worked for another local Painter Harry Jones.

1972 he formed another partnership with Dave Johnson  known  as Campbell & Johnson Painters

1977 Colin brought Dave out of the partnership and Colin Campbell Painting Contractors was established.

1984 William Maxwell as a young 18 year old started as a brush hand.

1985 Colin joined the Painting Contractors Association of Auckland affiliated to New Zealand Painting Contractors Association in May as a Registered Master Painter now known as Master Painters New Zealand Association Inc.

In 2003 with the business growing and a staff of over 15 tradesman it was time to register the company as Colin Campbell Painting Contractors Ltd

Colin although retired, is still actively involved in the business but most days can be found tinkering in his workshop rebuilding one of his classic cars or down at the club telling a yarn or two.

Paula, Colin’s daughter has been holding the fort as Office Manager since 1998.

Shane,  Colin’s son, joined the business full time in 1991 after gaining many years casual and part time experience within the company.  He progressed to a supervisory role, eventually managing our then sprayshop.   In 2005 Shane took a year’s leave of absence to travel to the South Island, where he and his family fell in love with the Lakes District, deciding to settle in Queenstown.  They took this opportunity to expand the family business to this beautiful part of the world. On occasions our Auckland teams would travel to Queenstown to give Shane a hand in this fast growing region. There were alway plenty of volunteer painters to put their hands up and go during summer but during winter they were not so keen! Unfortunately Shane and his Wife left Queenstown in 2021 to establish a new life in Australia. A Big Thank You to Shane for his dedication over the years to the business.

Our now General Manager William Maxwell has been with the company for over 35 years. Willie has worked to grow the company to a position where we have a team of qualified Tradesman able to ensure high quality service and customer satisfaction. Willie works closely with our staff and clients to achieve outstanding results. He is well respected in the industry and is committed to continuous improvement to make the painting process hassle-free.
